i wonder what this guy looks like with his shirt off, because in that video, he’s proof that you can’t tell always tell a crossfitter by how they look. he looks very normal
Normal and sweet and somewhat dorky right? Just like a nice guy. He’s probably one of the shredded, wiry ones. Doesn’t look meathead at all.
Have been looking up crossfit a little online. Ido Portal’s stuff is really interesting. I like the experimental energy and enthusiasm! I’m sure you can bring the community a much needed look at linking breath with movement…and also more focus on flexibility. There is a YouTube video of Ido called Passive Flexibiltiy tests. You just want to yell BREATHE as you watch it.
I myself need to figure out how to incorporate more regular stretching into my new reality. It’s being hugely neglected now!!! But I will stretch for about 15/20m post salt bath tonight.
And yes the breathing and movement. That’s one of the reasons why I like Pilates classes for core work.
There’s this one young, cute, friendly guy who acts as a sort of morale coach at the “box” where I go for CrossFit. I like to cram myself into any available side space and do a little stretching while waiting for class to begin. He told me he was “jealous” of my Hanuman (not that he’d know what we call it in Sanskrit). He demonstrated how far he could go. Since the space & NYC branch I’m at is in the midst of active evolution – Elements & Beginner classes are both very new – it’s my hope that if I get into it, things might evolve so there is SOME dedictated space for post class stretching….
One of my favorite things about the regime is that the movements are constantly changing and challenging the body in new ways. I think the repetitive nature of Ashtanga is one of its blessings but also a curse, because I truly believe that’s where most of the chronic injuries come from.
PS: I’m going to look up the clips you mentioned later!
The one Ido posted yesterday, Ido Portal on Paleo Diet, CrossFit, Gymnastics, Motivation, Movement & More, is a good one!
I’m gonna look right now!
